Nil Battey Sannata is a 2016 Indian drama film directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari and written by Anvita Dutt Guptan. It stars Swara Bhaskar, Ria Shukla and Amit Sadh in the main roles. The film portrays the hopes and aspirations of a village girl who goes on to become an IAS officer.The movie is based on a real-life story of an adolescent from rural India who finds her voice through education, overturning social hierarchies in her society along the way.It won the National Award for Best Film, among others. The movie is scheduled to be released on 6 March 2016.Krishnendu (Ria Shukla) is an 11-year-old girl, who lives in a small village in Uttar Pradesh with her family. Her father, Pyarelal Yadav (Amit Sadh), has political ambitions, so he leaves Krishnendu in the care of her grandmother while he goes to Delhi to work for the people in the nation's capital. He leaves his daughter with disillusionment when he does not return for her 10th birthday when she was promised by him that he would do so. Krishnendu's mother had died when she was young. Krishnendu is not socially accepted, as she is considered socially superior to others in the village because she was born with a cleft lip. She has to leave her school because of social pressure. Pyarelal Yadav's wife, Malati (Swara Bhaskar), however, supports her much younger brother-in-law, Shivraj Singh Chauhan (Amit Sadh), who is a childhood friend of Krishnendu. He uses his political connections to put pressure on the principal of the school to let Krishnendu attend classes once again. He also helps her cope with her social issues. Shivraj is in love with Malati, who has had an arranged marriage with him. He marries her after they get married after Malati's brother, Vishwanath's (Kiran Karmarkar) death. All of them get along well until his father, Vishwanath, returns. Soon, however, Vishwanath ask them not to live in the same room. This causes Malati to leave Shivraj for her uncle's house during a dispute between their family and Vishwanath regarding his property.One day when Krishnendu was out with some friends on their bikes during summer vacation she loses control of her bike and crashes into a cow that was grazing there. As a result of this, she loses her spleen and has to receive medical treatment for this. The condition worsens and so she is admitted to the hospital. There, Dr. Vinod (Jugal Hansraj) tells them that she will probably lose control of her left leg because of it. He also tells them that since other limbs are attached to the body, other limbs would be attached once the first one is lost. She returns home after this incident and learns that Pyarelal Yadav has returned to Delhi after he buried his first wife's ashes somewhere in the village during an unexpected journey there.
